Body Sculpting Q & A
What is body sculpting?
There are many choices on the market today for reducing unwanted body fat, including body sculpting. Options for body sculpting range from noninvasive procedures that use lasers to destroy fat cells, to minimally invasive procedures such as laser-assisted liposuction, all the way to surgical procedures such as the traditional tummy tuck and liposuction.
The normal areas of focus for sculpting include:
- Abdomen
- Hips
- Inner and outer thighs
- Back
- Flanks
How do noninvasive body sculpting techniques work?
Noninvasive techniques for body sculpting are incredibly popular today. Patients who want to avoid incisions have found modern lasers to be a preferable alternative for reducing body fat, most notably because of the lack of recovery time.
A traditional tummy tuck involves plastic surgery, with the surgeon making an incision across the patient's abdomen and at least a month of recovery time. With laser-assisted liposuction, the doctor makes small cuts to the patient's abdomen and then uses lasers to liquefy fat so that it is easier to remove via a small tube.
Both procedures result in bleeding, bruising, and swelling. But with SculpSure®, patients avoid these side effects.
SculpSure® utilizes the heat from lasers to break down fat cells. Since the procedure doesn't involve vacuums, patients don't feel any pulling or pinching. Furthermore, the patient's body naturally eliminates the damaged fat cells over several weeks.
What happens during a SculpSure® treatment?
Using SculpSure® laser technology, Dr. Garcia places flat applicators attached to the lasers directly on the treatment area. Special cooling plates on top of the applicators touch the patient's skin, protecting it from the laser’s heat.
The laser heats the fat cells, and they disintegrate. The SculpSure® procedure takes only about 25 minutes. That is faster than cooling techniques, due to the simultaneous use of four applicators.
What results can I expect from SculpSure®?
The FDA has cleared SculpSure® as a viable method for eliminating at least 24% of the fat on the abdomen and flanks in just one treatment, and all without any incisions or vacuums. Many patients are satisfied after one SculpSure® treatment, but some schedule a second treatment to further refine their results.
